1890s Hickory Clubs

Here are images of Forgan clubs with the early “plume’ mark. These are legitimate 1890s clubs for playing with groove or bramble gutty golf balls. The groove design ball was prevalent, and the bramble was introduced as the “Agrippa” ball in 1895. You’ll see that the paint from the gutty ball tends to mark up the faces of the “smooth face” irons.

These irons are quite hefty in size and weight, and usually performed best with a bit of flex to propel the gutty ball and soften the feel in the hands.
